Flash Hits Radio Management

Operations Manager - Chris Gamelin

Ever since I was 12, I was interested in a career in broadcasting. I

always loved the technical side about it and doing live events

and cutting between cameras and such.I had a particular interest in

the radio field of broadcasting/communications. I spent over a year

developing a strong radio-based knowledge and skill-set. I learned

how to create a radio station; how to integrate different elements

such as music, software, and how to produce a good quality program.

From there, I started my own internet radio station, collected money

to build my own studio with professional equipment, and joined four

reputable internet radio stations. I still do radio at a couple radio

stations such as 88.7 FM WNHU at University of New Haven and I interned at AM1220 WQUN at Quinnipiac University. My goal when I started college was and still is to take courses that lead me to my ultimate goal of either working a professional radio station or work behind the scenes of a TV station or run a camera at professional events. Getting my hands on and learning all aspects of broadcasting are my goals. I want to get a full background on the TV side of things working with the cameras and in the control rooms and I also want to learn more about radio and what goes into producing good quality programming. Building on my knowledge has always been my philosophy. The first time I broadcasted an event was in middle school; I met my future mentor, the tech specialist, when she asked me to assist with running equipment. She taught me how to operate new equipment and our teamwork lead to a successful production. She told me to talk to her when I got to high school to get even more involved and that is exactly what I did. As a student in her TV production class, I lead the class to produce school news episodes every three weeks. The only profession I see myself happy for the rest of my life in would be any job in the broadcasting field. I have a passion for it as well as the particular skills and drive to achieve the goal. I see myself working at a TV station running the controls behind the scenes and I also see myself running the controls and hosting my own radio show at a radio station such as KC101 or any popular radio station. I am a very outgoing person who has started his radio career even before college. I am experienced beyond my years and will continue to achieve and grow throughout my career. I strive for the best and push myself to continue to learn and understand, both in broadcasting and in academics. I know what I need to do to succeed and will do anything to achieve my goals. I have a true passion for communications and that will never change, regardless of the challenges I will have to overcome.  There is a quote that I heard recently at an orientation event that I attended a few days ago that really spoke to me and made me feel even more that I was on the right path to my career. "You can’t do anything you want in life; you can only be the best at what you already love to do".
